Sitting in his office, on his couch with no boundaries separating him from the journalists, we interviewed Principal Weissman who was very entertaining. He proved himself to be open-minded, as he answered all our questions and shared many new ideas.

When asked about his experience in PHS so far, he said, “It’s been great. I think you guys are very compassionate students who deserve the best education.” Principal Weissman has a lot to handle in PHS since there are many student complaints. Instead of ignoring the complaints, however, he gives the students ideas about how to improve the situation. He believes in empowering students by giving them responsibility.

The second issue we discussed was about teachers and students leaving school at the same time. He admitted that he wished teachers could stay longer, but because teachers are under a contact it is not possible. Finally, we asked Principal Weissman about what the biggest challenge at PHS is for him. “Convincing people that change is necessary and healthy,” he responded.

Furthermore, Principal Weissman has many plans for PHS. In fact, he wants more structure in the school, as well as, improving students’ lives on a more emotional and social level. In addition, Weissman wants more hands on activities that will help the students to be brought up to par.

Besides helping students during high school, he wants to make sure the students will be ready for the real world by having a new program for careers and technical education. Careers and Technical education will help students learn about the careers they may want to pursue in the future. Most importantly, Weissman wants “learning to be fun!”

To sum up, Weissman loves the fact that our school has such a diverse student body, and how many students support one another. He noticed and likes our drive to want to succeed in life. All in all, he wants to see more progress in PHS. Weissman’s final remark was, “Let’s transform this high school into a happy joyful school.”

After a good two days of interviewing Mr. Weissman, we asked if he sees himself staying in PHS for more years to come. Actually, he plans to be here for a long time, because he has a lot more ideas for PHS. He plans to enhance the high school’s reputation to the prestigious level it held in the past. One thing’s for sure, Principal Weissman is happy to be here.

On a personal note, The Hilltop Star staff is glad you had a speedy recovery and are back at school.
