Walking through the doors; students were full of excitement for what was awaiting PHS students. As the minutes passed, the excitement of students arose as Principal Weissman talked about his love for the students here at PHS. Principle Wessiman soon introduced Ariela Colon, vice president of Club Latino, and Anthony Gonzales who represented Mayor Alex Blanco.
Both Colon and Gonzales spoke about Club Latino and how it would help student’s education in college. The help and scholarships are available to all Hispanic students, but are very competitive to win. The students cheered at the idea of so much help for their education and both speakers motivated students to achieve more than they can imagine.
As they came to their ending remarks, students were beginning to feel ecstatic for what was to come. They presented their first guest of the day; Michael Joseph Luciano also known as “Luciano Xactamente” who graduated PHS back in 2010.
Upon his arrival on stage, Luciano sang his first single, “Sigo Enamorado.” After his performance, the DJs presented the well known Bachata group from New York, 24 Horas. You could see the excitement in the crowd while they were singing a few of their songs.
Once they were done singing, they spoke to the students and motivated them to achieve their dreams. As a result, they were presented with a plaque from the mayor’s office for visiting and helping inspire students.
In the end, the performance was a huge success. Students, faculty, and staff loved the group. The Latino pride was really in the air!
