Mrs. Slosarik, English Teacher, has committed to walk 60 miles in the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3-Day, along with thousands of other women and men who are walking to make a personal difference in the fight to end breast cancer. She will also be acting as a crew member for the Susan G. Komen Boston 3-Day, supporting the walkers in that city. Slosarik’s battle with breast cancer has been a long one. She is BRCA positive and the 4th generation of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer in her family. Her battle began 11 years ago and June of 2012 marked six years with Stage 4 breast cancer. She is the living proof that every step that is taken and every dollar that is raised makes a difference.
Slosarik has already embarked on a physical and emotional journey in preparing for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day®. Like other Komen 3-Day participants, Slosarik will spend months training for the event’s physical demands and fundraising at least $2,300 to help fund innovative breast cancer research, scientific programs and community outreach programs. All of the participants’ dedication and preparation culminates by walking 60 miles over the course of three days.
“I walk because I cannot walk away. I have had 14 surgeries, numerous treatments and carry the genetic marker for breast cancer,” said Mrs. Slosarik. She added, “My hope is that my efforts will help insure that my daughter never has to face this illness.”
The Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3-Day is a place in a world where differences are embraced, bonds are formed, and every moment—from the Opening Ceremony on Friday Morning, October 4, 2013 to Closing Ceremony on Sunday afternoon, —is full of meaning, emotion and celebration. Walkers cover
about 20 miles a day with hundreds of dedicated volunteers and crew members supporting the walkers through the three-day journey.
Each year, more than 200,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and nearly 2,000 cases are diagnosed in men in the U.S. To help Slosarik reach her goal of a world without breast cancer, make a donation by visiting www.the3Day.org/goto/
