After many years of service the gymnasium is getting a much needed makeover. First, the old gym will be treated to a new floor. Then, new bleachers will be installed along with a general freshening of the rest of the room.
Furthermore, asbestos abatement will be conducted between April 15 through May 6. Ahera Consultants inc. is performing the work and they have a full barrage of safety measures in place. “Workers will employ enhanced engineering controls, such as additional air changes, continuous air monitoring with samples analyzed onsite, and enhanced wet removal techniques, which will provide for adequate protection to the building occupants,” said Mr. Eric Clarkson, the project manager in a letter.
The new gym will not be left out. After the completion of the old gym renovation, the new gym will get a new floor and new bleachers as well. The floors are not in as dire need of refinishing as the old gym, but PHS is getting refurbished. “The students of PHS really deserve these renovations,” said Mr. DeNaples.
Old Gym renovations started on April 1 and will be inaccessible until the work is completed. Physical education students will certainly be treated to a nicely renovated gym when the work is done. As Mr. Weissman said, “Nothing is too good for the students of PHS.”
