Start saving your money because the 2013 summer movie season is going to be busy with highly anticipated movies. The first on my list, and many of yours too, is Ironman 3. This sequel to Ironman 2, will pick up where The Avengers left off. Released on May 3, it will kick off the summer movie season.
It has been a long time since there has been a good Superman movie. Man of Steel will be released June14. This looks promising. Man of Steel is directed by Zachary Snyder, who is known for 300 and The Watchmen. He is no stranger to the comic book genre.
The Wolverine is one movie I am very excited to see. The release date is July 26. Wolverine is a compelling character and I never get tired of seeing Hugh Jackman in this role.
A slightly surprising movie of this season is Fast and Furious 6. Even though there was a rumor that the series had met its end in Fast and Furious 5, there was still so much interest in this franchise that the release date for Fast and Furious 6 is May 24.
I know we are all very grown up and do not want to admit it we all still love our family movies, so if you go to see one of many animated movies coming out this summer, at least bring your little brother as cover.
The first of two movies being released by Disney, which is attracting a large amount of attention, is Monsters University. The entire cast from the first film is back from Monsters Inc. to bring back Sully and Mike to when they were in college. It looks hilarious and will come out on June 21.
The second movie from Disney is a sequel to another Pixar film. Planes is part of the world of Cars. You can’t go wrong with Pixar. I am sure this will be enjoyable. You can take your little brother on August 9.
Dreamworks will also have entries into the animated
family movie genre. In Despicable Me 2, set to be released on July 3, Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal. And yes the minions are returning as well.
Just after Despicable Me is another animated film from Dreamworks, Turbo. A snail dreams of winning the Indy 500, and I am sure this will be uplifting. On July 15 you can see if he wins the race.
Another great film coming out very early in the season is Oblivion starring Tom Cruise. This movie is set in a future when Earth is destroyed and everyone had to be evacuated. However, there were
people that were left behind. It is mystery that Cruise’s character will have to unravel, beginning on April 19.
Lastly, an eagerly anticipated movie, at least for me, is We Steal Secrets: The story of Wikileaks. Its release date is May 24. I decided to put a documentary on the summer blockbuster list. It shows how well rounded I am and I really want to see it. This documentary details the creation of Julian Assange’s controversial website, which facilitated the largest security breach in U.S. history. Maybe you can get extra credit in history class when you see it starting on May 24.
One thing is certain, this is going to be a busy summer, and we better start saving now to be able to afford all the anticipated movies of summer 2013.
