Vikings raid the History Channel

The new show “Vikings” on the History Channel, gives a new perspective and depth to the Viking saga. The show premiered on March 3 with an outstanding 6 million viewers for their first episode “Rites of Passage”.

This new series is based on legendary Vikings, Ragnar Lothbrok and Flóki Vilgerðarson. These visionaries and companions discover a new way to navigate the seas and discover the British Isles. Ragnar Lothbrok is a farmer and an ambitious man who yearns to navigate the sea. His ambition leads him to face the local chieftain Earl Haraldson who believes there is absolutely nothing to the west.

Ragnar plans a dangerous voyage, taunting this ruler, and seeks master ship builder and craftsman Floki. Though deranged Floki is a talented ship builder. He holds a deep belief in the Norse god of mischief, Loki. Together, with a group of brave warriors, they wander into the sea and the series follows them as they struggle with Earl Heraldson and his struggle to keep his men under his control. Eventually Ragnar and Floki stumble upon England and prove their ruler wrong. The ruler’s authority is challenged and there is bloodshed, many battles, new discoveries of new religions,lands and ways to navigate the sea.

The first season consists of nine episodes which air every Sunday at 10pm in the History Channel. This new show is certainly worth staying up late on Sunday to watch.
