The annual ROTC military ball was postponed once, due to snow, but held on January 25. All the cadets and guests had a blast. While some students might think that the military ball is just some kind of ROTC prom, actually, there is a long history of balls in naval tradition.
Every year cadets and instructors look forward to celebrating at the military ball. There is always a beautiful ceremony honoring various cadets for excellence, and a ceremony that honors the outgoing seniors and welcomes the new freshmen. Of course there is also food and dancing as well.
All the cadets who attended had a great time. What is even more important than a chance to have fun with the other cadets, is the friendships that are built.
“I really feel like I am part of something special, when I go to the military ball,” said junior Lizett Garcia. She added, “Being part of the NJROTC makes me feel like I am part of something more than myself. The people are great.”
So why does there need to be a ball? Petty Officer Jim Nuyen said, “The navy expects us to carry on this naval tradition, as well as others. This is really an award banquet.” The student cadets agree with this naval tradition. It was a great opportunity to show how great the PHS students really are.
