The library reconstruction was already behind schedule, but the pipe leak in January totally killed any possibility of the library media center fully opening this school year. Many books were destroyed by the water damage and some of the newly constructed remodeling had to be redone.

With this school year winding down and students thinking about summer, the reopening of the library may not be on the minds of students. However, work will continue with inventorying old books, ordering new books and making sure that the library media center is ready for work this coming September.

Mrs. McGinnis said of the reconstruction effort, “The leak was a setback, but we are working hard to ensure that the library will be ready for students.” She added that she anticipates the grand opening in the fall to be a great success. She added, “It has been a long time coming, but all the hard work by everyone is really starting to pay off.”

The lighting is much better, the circulation desk is completely new, and there is a new computer lab with more modern technology. Additionally, there is a new conference room, a tv production studio, PODs for small group meetings, a presentation area, and other tables for collaborative planning and one-on-one discussions.

With the library media center nearing completion, the festivities for the grand re-opening are being completed. Expect to see such dignitaries as Mayor Blanco, Superintendent Munoz, Assistant Superintendent Pagan and Goldberg, the principal and assistant principals, and even television and newspaper reporters.

After the music and ribbon cutting, we all get to use this brand new facility to learn. So, enjoy the summer now, but come September, look forward to working in the new media center.
