The students had hoped to change the string of losses to the teachers, during this year’s annual student/teacher basketball game.

Even though the students began with an early lead, the teachers rallied to win the game. Everyone in attendance had a great time and the players had a chance to bond in a way that cannot be done in class.
Aside from the good feelings and camaraderie on the court, this event was sponsored as a fund raising event, to fund scholarships for students. The game was co-sponsored by the Octagon Club and PHS Cheerleading.

This event was a huge success. Teachers soundly beat their students, who were talking up their on-court prowess for weeks before the game. Students enjoyed the opportunity to see their teachers in a more casual setting. In the end the teachers won the match. However, the students who will benefit from the $1075 that the Octagon Club raised from this fundraiser are the real winners.

Basketball 1This was a chance to have a great time, build collegiality among the staff and students, and build positive relationships, not to mention help raise money for students to go to college.

Mr. Sheridan, Advisor of the Octagon Club, said of the event, “I am so proud of the Octagon Club, they went above and beyond to raise money for the community.” He added, of the staff participation, “I think it is incredible that so many members of the staff participated or helped to make the game a success.”

Faculty members played, sold tickets, coached, donated money, did security, helped set up the gym, and ran the scoreboard. Mr. Sheridan would like to thank all those who helped make this game such a huge success.
Even though the teachers won this game, again, Mr. Sheridan said jokingly, “I am shocked to see how close the game was.” He vows that next year the teachers will win the match by a greater margin. He said, “We’ll be ready for the students next year.”

Basketball 3However, in this competition, we are all winners. Congratulations to everyone who was part of this great time.
