After a long, stressful, confusing season, the Denver Broncos have made it into the historic fiftieth Super Bowl. Denver faced the number one offense in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers. However, the number one offense Panthers had to play the number one defense Broncos. This matchup made for a very good game.

It has been a tough season for Denver, with a record of 12-4.  They lost to the Colts, Raiders, Chiefs, and Steelers, but they also had their victories over the Packers, Vikings, Bengals and Patriots, which are some of the best teams in the NFL. A part of their seasonal difficulties arose from the Broncos having more than their share of injuries. The most significant injury was their best weapon, one of the greatest quarterbacks to step on the field, Peyton Manning. He had a foot injury, a shoulder injury, and a hip injury.

To take his place for a couple of weeks, was the backup quarterback, Brock Osweiler. He did surprise football fans with his good performance.  Both quarterbacks have done their jobs well and that allowed the Broncos to go to the playoffs. However, they were again seen as the underdogs, just as they had been during the entire post season. Just as they had done during the entire season, the Broncos have proved their critics wrong.

Defense indeed does win championships, as this Super Bowl demonstrated. While it probably will be Peyton’s “last rodeo,” it is a wonderful way to end a truly spectacular career. Peyton Manning walks into the sunset of his career with the championship, a 2nd ring, many broken records, and a host of incredible fans to cheer his name.
