Bye Bye Vine!

By Armando Martinez

Twitter announced that they will be pulling the plug on Vine, the short-form looping video mobile app it obtained four years ago in an effort to bring videos to the social network. Vine had over 200 million active users, so why this decision?

There was no reason given on why they are killing the app, however the move was announced hours after Twitter laid off nine percent of it’s staff due to cutting costs and getting the company to be more profitable.

vine-logoThey assured users that “nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today.” Users will be able to access their and download their Vines, and will keep the website online because they think that it’s important to “still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made.”

The users will be notified before there are any changes to the app and website.
In a Medium post they thanked those who created and viewed Vines on the app.

“To all the creators out there — thank you for taking a chance on this app back in the day. To the many team members over the years who made this what it was — thank you for your contributions. And of course, thank you to all of those who came to watch and laugh every day.”
