Girls Volleyball: Setting Up for Success

By Bielka Nunez and Aleyshka Barbosa

The PHS Girls Freshman, JV, and Varsity Volleyball teams gave Passaic High School a reason to be proud this season. They worked together to accomplish six Varsity victories this season with help from Coach Munoz and team captains Saray Javier and Regieka Clayton.

Two Varsity players shared their feelings about what it’s like to play on the team.
Neidalys Polanco, #6, said that playing volleyball “is a learning experience and you learn how to be a team player.”

Yetty Marte, #9, stated: “you learn a lot about yourself and how to improve to play better.”

JV Player Rachell Hiraldo described playing on the PHS Volleyball team in three words: “challenge, responsibility, and family.”

Polanco and Marte also stated that the girls on the team are like sisters to one another.
The team came together and defeated Bergen Tech, Paterson Eastside, Hawthorne Christian, and Paterson Kennedy this season.

Every sports team has a competitive side that comes out when they are playing. The team created a word to remind them of two important aspects of the game; staying positive, but also being competitive: “pompetitive.”

The players on the Volleyball team have proven to be a strong unit on and off the court. Next season is sure to be even better for this group of talented and unstoppable girls.
