Trump’s Plans for Office: Progress or Regress?

By Aleyshka Barbosa

President-Elect Donald Trump has already announced his first intended actions as President of the United States.

Mr. Trump had made many promises to the American people for his goals as president. It is safe to say that this has sparked a lot of controversy amongst the American public. He intends to “Make America Great Again,” which has America somewhat divided.

Since Mr. Trump won the election, he sat down and talked to President Barack Obama and reporters. He claims that he will no longer be building a complete wall dividing our country from Mexico, but he will put fences in different locations. However, he is still keeping a firm grip on his belief that our country will not benefit from any more immigrants. Trump also stated that he plans on enacting tax cuts as soon as possible.

President Obama plans to cooperate with Mr. Trump’s transition team to help him to get acclimated to presidential duties and responsibilities.

Post election, Trump said he would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) “simultaneously.” He plans to change aspects of it that he feels are not successful and beneficial to Americans. “It will be repealed and replaced,”  he told Lesley Stahl on 60 Minutes last week. “And we’ll know. And it’ll be great healthcare for much less money.”

However, Mr. Trump still can renounce the Paris agreement about greenhouse-gas emissions, restart the exploration of Keystone Pipeline, and suspend the Syrian refugee program. He can bring trade cases against China.

This is also known as the “First Day Project,” which is a plan to overturn the actions that President Obama and his administration have enacted. It has been said by his team that the first day in office he will strive to erase President Obama’s legacy.

It is not clear whether or not our President-Elect will be able to enact all of his future plans or not, but it is best to be hopeful that there will be positive changes and that our country joins together after the election to support each other.
