Standing on the edge of something great, is a lot like standing in the girls basketball team practice. Hard work and dedication run through the blood of each of the girls as they practice harder and longer everyday.
This season though, has not brought the potential many expected. The girls have made sure to not set a goal for the end of the season, but a goal every time they step onto the court for practice and games.
Thanks to Coach Curry and Coach Iturrino, the girls receive great support on and off the court. Not only the coaches, but also the Varsity team captains Estephany, #5, and Valentina, #10. As mentioned by player #23, Moenay Mouzone, “The captains motivate us and when we do something wrong they don’t call the individual out, but they bring the team together and make us all work on our errors.”
The girls have made it clear that they recognize the small mistakes that cost them their plays. Mouzone stated,“For example, we would have a nice pass and the person was supposed to go for a lay up, [however] they missed the ball and turned it over.”
However, they are working on these errors in and out of practice and their coaches have added more drills, more laps, and more motivational speeches.
The girls accomplished a victory over Clifton High School, beating the team in a close match 23-22 on Jan. 28. Ashley Ramirez was the lead scorer for the Passaic Lady Indians with a total of six points that game.
The girl’s basketball team record at the end of the season was 1-14. Even so, the Lady Indians team have left all their blood, sweat, and effort on the court; none the less, creating memories to last a lifetime.
