The student council at Passaic High School was established to build a new form of communication and to further student education. The student council members are representatives of the student body from all four grades.
This year, teachers Mr. Brubaker and Ms. Ruiz support our student council and provide guidance. The student council is the voice of the people. For various complaints, concerns, and suggestions, the student council will hear your cry and speak up about numerous issues.
One of the sophomore representatives, Aleyshka Barbosa, stated, “I was interested in the position of student council because I knew that the school needed a change, and it also needed to be reminded that there’s so much we can do in high school. So I thought to myself that I would be one of the best people to be apart of a team that can make this happen. Who doesn’t want to be part of change?”
Barbosa believes she could bring some comedic relief to the student council. “I’m a funny gal; I would say so even though student government deals with the problems of the school. I think I can be that comedy relief that will reassure people that we are only human.”
Junior representative Jessica Sanchez wants to be a part of positive change at PHS. “I am interested in this position on student council because I care deeply about the issues we as students face at school on a daily basis.
As a junior and rising senior, I want to make sure I leave this school in its best possible shape for the years to come. Student council is the best way to address and do something about our problems with the school, whether it be about bathrooms or uniforms or grades. I think I am capable of helping bring about positive change.”
Freshman representative Ginelis Rodriguez stated, “My tactics for healing PHS issues is to have a deeper understanding of the problems and discuss with the other members of the council and find a way to fix it together.”
Election day was held on December 15, 2016. It’s been a long and hard battle to fight for such positions. We have a vast number of decorated and driven students on our PHS student council.
