This spring, the PHS Baseball Team has made their mark. The team has won four games so far and there are plenty more to come. The team accomplished a big win over Paterson Kennedy early in the season on April 3, beating the team with a score of 5-1.
On April 7, Passaic beat Montclair in a non-conference game by 10 runs, with a score of 11-1. Some of the biggest highlights of the season come from the team’s two victories over Bergen Tech on April 17 and 19. On April 17, Passaic beat Bergen Tech with a total of 7 runs.
On April 19, the game was close and went into extra innings. Finally, Erick Duran drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, to secure the win, 6-5, for Passaic at Boverini Stadium.
The players in the baseball team have shown the town that practice does make perfect and the dedication and good attitudes resemble in the team’s victories. Seniors make up the leadership of the team which includes, Jose Ledesma, Robin Santos, Brian Velez, Robert Sierra, Michael Sams, Adonis Reynoso, Bernie Joseph.
Varsity player Isael Pichardo recently stated, “great vibes, great coaches, and team players really make the game I love to play even better.”
The team is currently 5-10.
“We are pitching well and playing solid defense. We need to come up with some timely hits,” said head coach Diaz.
On Saturday, April 29, the PHS baseball team started off their beginning rounds to the Passaic County Tournament. Ledesma threw a shutout during the first round of the Passaic County tournament in which they defeated the Eastern Christian 10-0.
Passaic Indians scored six runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a stolen base, a single by Cespedes, and a single by Liranzo.
Passaic Indians stole 15 bases during the game as six players stole more than one. Lenny Rodriguez led the way with three. Ledesma did allow just one hit and induced a groundout from Bitelli to end the game. Even with this victorious win, the Passaic Indians showed good sportsmanship to the other team.
