The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 in Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals, concluding with the Golden State Warriors becoming 2016-17 NBA Champions on Monday night.
Last year they blew a 3-1 lead, but followed a game four loss with a victory that proved to everyone that they’re “built to last.” The team has now won their second title in three years.
The series finished 4-1, Kevin Durant won his first NBA title and was named the 2017 Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP. Durant averaged 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game.
Durant had a dominant performance over Stephen Curry who didn’t receive any votes for MVP. This says a lot about Durant’s career in his first year with the Warriors.
LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers scored 51 points in Game 5 and became the first player in NBA history to average a triple double in The Finals. Also, Kyrie Irving was phenomenal for most of the series.
Kevin Love disappeared in Game 5, leaving the Cavaliers defense pretty defenseless. This gave the Warriors the opportunity for an easy score.
