High Temperatures

By Juliana Disla

In May and June, the air gets heavy and the school building gets more humid on especially scorching days. It doesn’t seem like it could get any worse, but after walking inside a class without a fan or air conditioning and sitting down after walking a couple flights of stairs, you are nothing but exhausted and sweaty. Hot temperatures in school are a distraction and are getting worse.

Hot Word As Symbol For Spices Or Heat

Some students argue they cannot function in these hot temperatures. Freshman Johann Navarro said, “I can’t focus on school work if it’s this hot. Especially in the gym, because is so hot, they should take us to the auditorium where it’s cooler.”

Another freshman student, Michelle Martinez explains “people have health issues and this heat can cause people to pass out.”

Everyone is rushing to class in this heat causes hallways to get crowded and a lot of excessive breathing and humidity to be produced. Leonardo Flores states “everyone gets sweaty and everyone is crowded in the halls so the school gets even more intensely hot.”

Classroom teachers also have an opinion on this extreme heat. Teacher Ms.Yilmaz said, “Air conditioners would be a good investment for the school- classrooms are too hot therefore students and teachers have trouble performing their best.”

Students are not able to work in class during this heat because they are too distracted by the sweating and the urge to get cool. The weather has been as high as 96 degrees. In summer school it is normally around 90 degrees or higher everyday.

Students can pass out, get sick, or get hurt due to the extreme weather. Students should not have to miss school because they cannot handle 90+ degree temperatures indoors. For the safety of the students, faculty, and staff, it is important for our school to consider installing air conditioning units in all classrooms.
