On May 20, 2017 the PHS Hiking Club went to Schunemunk Mountain. This mountain is 1,700 feet above sea level with 25 miles of trail to hike and is the highest mountain in Orange County, NY. The Hiking Club, advised by Mr. Reicher and Ms. Yildirim, only completed eight miles and still managed to make it to the top. It was an amazing experience to be a part of for the hikers, but very difficult. On the hike, they got to see a small waterfall, rattlesnakes, bugs, and the overall nature of the mountain. The club made a few stops to eat and relax. The students and chaperones needed all of their energy to ensure that they were hiking safely. It was important to take the experience very seriously and practice safety in order to make sure no one was injured or got lost.
