On February 27, the African American Assembly took place at the Passaic High School. This fun and educational event was ran by Ms. Kellam, an English teacher here in our school.
It concluded Black History Month with a musical bang.
Kashim Cook, president of the African American Club, explains, “our club is based on what you can bring and what you can give. It doesn’t matter the color of your skin or ethnicity, or if your skin was the color of green. We accept all kinds and anyone who wants to enter the club, is always welcomed!”
Ms. Kellam describes the assembly stating that it “highlighted famous African Americans throughout time who had a profound impact on society. Several students participated in a production and a preparation for the show.”
Chiane Anderson sang a piece entitled “Feeling Good” and “Lift Every Voice.” Anderson said, “It was an amazing experience. I loved being able to express African American culture in a positive way.”
Gabriel Champion, who also performed a musical number “Amazing Grace,” stated “It was amazing, from the African dancing, to the gospel music. It was an atmosphere of spirituality and wonderful peace.”
Jonathan Portilla performed “Heal the World” and Diamonique Dotson “His Eyes on the Sparrow” wowed the crowd.
The PHS African American Club meets every Wednesday after school. Please see Ms. Kellam for details.
