Passaic High School has done it again! This year PHS performed their rendition of “Chicago: The Musical” written originally by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb. The play, carried themes of “murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery.”

“Chicago: The Musical,” based in Chicago, Illinois in the mid-1920’s, is about two Vaudevillian murderesses, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, and their adventure through prison and life after murdering their lovers.

The show generally depicts a lot of dry humor and sarcasm. It keeps you on your toes but your ears are in love with the different sounds from every song.

The cast and crew of this year’s production of “Chicago” created an amazing three night show. They worked difficult and tedious hours, long rehearsals and a long time building relationships together to show PHS the amazing talent we have right here in our school.

The director was our very own band director, Christopher Rusca. Mr. Rusca picked the strongest cast members for this production and the end result was breathtaking.

Hands down, the most loved character of the play at PHS was Mary Sunshine played by Sophomore Gabriel Champion. Characters Roxie and Velma played by Jessica Sanchez and Maria Salas, as well as Bruce Ransom playing Billy Flynn, blew us all away with uncanny acting, perfectly portraying their characters to the T!  Let’s not forget the band up in the background giving the feel of live music playing as the lives of each character goes on naturally.
