DECA (An Association of Marketing Students) is the youth organization that prepares students to be emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in the fields of marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
At Passaic High School, the DECA Club advisor is Mrs. K. Fuller, and she works with Mrs. V. Aristy, the NAF Coordinator (of the Finance Pathway), Mr. A. Maisonet, AP over the CTE/Business Department, and the CTE/Business Department staff to coordinate business and club activities throughout the school year. Currently the club has over 50 members and continues to grow every year.
Recently, PHS’s DECA chapter competed at the New Jersey DECA Regional Competitive Events at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ on January 7, 2019. Members who competed were: Paulo Almiron, Sandra Canada, Bryan Castro, Ana Coto, Guadalupe DeGaona, Chantal Diaz, Gabriela Farfan, Ciara Flores, Jesus Hernandez-Cortez, Jocelyn Hernandez-Alvarado, Maria Izelo, Margarita Lino-Vanegas, Bryan Marin, Roxana Munoz, Taylor Pettiford, Stephanie Quiroz, Sheyla Rivera, and Jennifer Yumiguano.
For some members, it was a first time experience and for others, another opportunity to sharpen their competition skills. But all and all, it was a great experience for everyone because they got the opportunity to interact with business professionals and to network with other DECA members in New Jersey’s northern region.
At competitions, winning and advancing to higher levels is something that all of the members strive for. Trophies are given to students who place in their competitive event.
We are excited that two of our members have advanced to the NJ DECA State Competitive Events in Atlantic City, NJ that will be held during the first week of March. And they are…drumroll please…Guadalupe DeGaona and Garbriela Farfan. Both young ladies will compete in the Principles of Finance event and will be competing against other DECA members from across the state of NJ.
Special thanks to our administrators, Ms. E. Febres (Admin. Asst. to Mrs. Torres-Gomez), the Passaic District Office, and our chaperones, Mrs. M. McNish and Mrs. L. Sadlon for making our trip to regionals a successful trip.
Good luck to Guadalupe and Gabriela at State Competitions!!!
