Making a Difference in the Interact Club

By Deshani Hendley

The Interact Club is sponsored by Rotary, with over 20,000 clubs in 159 countries; there is definitely one close by. In PHS, we are lucky to have this club for students to join, but what do they do?

Interact clubs is for students from 12-18, so that they can learn to develop leadership skills, while they are serving their communities. Interactors serve their local community, like the school or Passaic. They also serve the world community as well, trying to make the world a better place. They do this in an atmosphere that is seriously fun.

Members of this club get to make a difference in the community, discover new people and ideas, and have fun making new friends. Each club is supposed to organize at least two projects every year. One should concentrate on helping the school or community, and another that promotes international understanding.

Our Interact Club is just went to different Passaic elementary schools, to work with students there. Interactors encouraged them through leadership to make sure they do their schoolwork, follow the rules, and just try to be smart. We told them that they should do their homework all the time and that they should try to be smart by completing everything. This way, when they grow up they will be smarter and better prepared. It is important to make sure we do everything in our power to help these kids, to be all they can be.

The Interact Club at PHS has about nine members now who try to make a difference in the lives of students in another school.

Why should you choose to join Club Interact? I joined to be a better person. I have learned that to make a difference means that I need to help and lead others, deal with their differences, and learn about them. I want to make this change for others.

Now they can be smarter about the choices they make as they grow up. Then they can make something of themselves, and learn how to respect each other. What better goal is there for a club?
