Fall is for Football Madness
Football closed off their season with a record of 2-7. They won two games which were against Belleville HS and Kennedy HS. At the beginning of their season they started off strong and took to win against Belleville with a final score of 58-12! As the time went on they started to slip and have a very rocky season.
Even though the record for this season is not the best PHS has ever seen, the team worked hard and played hard, leaving it all out on the field.
Senior Jamiel Chalmers ended his high school career with 116 attempts, 1,026 yards, eight touchdowns, and 351 longest pass plays. He was without a doubt the MVP of the football team this year and he would not fail to disappoint his team or that crowd in any game.
After an interview with the first team all league athlete of the team he said, “Our team chemistry was pretty good. We would get very hyped up in the locker room but when we would play we would feel defeated before the game is even over so there is no sense of urgency to win. We had a couple of our best players injured throughout the season that really jeopardized our season who were James brown, Christopher Marte-Feliz, and Fausto Diaz. Most of our players were either freshmen or sophomores and not very many juniors which makes them not very well developed players but they will have more potential in the future.”
It is very tough to play when your most experienced players are injured, so congratulations to the effort of the Passaic Indians Football Team. Great job!
Boys Soccer Team – Preparing for FIFA
Even though Indian Soccer lost their state sectionals on October 27th against Clifton with a final score of 0-1, the boys soccer team finished off their season with a record of 8-9-2. That is not a bad season for the boys in a tough conference but some commented that they looked really good this year and will get better in future seasons. The MVP players, based off the stats, were Jesse Garcia and Oscar Gomez they ended off the season with 3 Goals 5 Attempts and 11 passes. Even though they did not dominate this year, they had an amazing time this season and that is what counts. They had some trouble doing good as well because they were missing some players due to various reasons. They fought hard and never backed down. We expect that the boys have a clear shot at the finals next season.
Girls Soccer Team Goes to States!
Girls soccer went to states, but unfortunately lost their first round there to West Orange with a final score of 0-6 on October 26th. Although they lost, Passaic’s goalie had a total of 10 saves throughout the game. They ended off their season with a score of 6-11-1.
Although they had a tough season they came out with some pretty good stats. Chealsey Barrera ended the season with six goals, eight attempts and 20 passes. The runner up was sophomore Melanie Sanchez. She ended with seven goals, three attempts and 17 Passes. Melanie is going to be playing for two more years, so this team will continue to shine.
The girls finished the season happy but are ready for the next season to show just how much they improved. Every team next year is on notice. We are sure they will do awesome next year because there will be new players that have a lot of potential (watch for future articles). Also, the veteran players are working hard during off-season, so they’ll be ready to start off strong and dominate next year.
Girls Volleyball Makes it to States
Girls volleyball made their mark this year with a trip to the quarter-finals in counties and to the first round of states. They ended their season with a final record of 8-12.
In an interview with the first team all-county captain of the volleyball team, Desiree Santana, she said, “This season has definitely been challenging and we went through our ups and downs and unfortunately lost a couple players along the way, but this season really showed me and the team how important it is to stay united and become a family and that is what we did and even through the tough games and practices we would pick each other up and keep fighting.”
The team wants to express their pride representing PHS all the way to States.
FIRST TEAM ALL COUNTY AWARD:
Varsity volleyball player and Captain of the team, Desiree Santana made it to first team all-county, and not only that, she also made it to first team all leagues. We are so proud of her and grateful to have her as a part of Passaic and she really represents what Passaic is all about. She is the December Passaic Student Athlete of the Month, congratulations!
