During the 2021-2022 Girls soccer season, Passaic fans were treated to a dramatic come-from-behind win on Senior Night. The win at Boverini Stadium marked the first time in Passaic history that our Girls team triumphed over Passaic Valley. As fate would have it, the 2022-2023 season would once again pit Passaic vs. Passaic Valley. This time the match was to be played in Totowa and would have advancement in the Passaic County Tournament hanging in the balance.
Despite having a better record heading into the match, Passaic was ranked lower and therefore forced to play an away game at Passaic Valley. The Passaic Indians Girls soccer never won a county game, but on October 1 that surely did change. The Passaic Girls Soccer team won, 2-0 against Passaic Valley. What a fight these girls had. The winning goals were scored by Alia Martinez and Ashely Martinez.
Alia Martinez said, “A lot of things were going through my head when I scored, I was glad to be assisted by an amazing player Ashley Martinez but also very proud of everyone for giving it their best!” Not only did Ashely give Alia her goal she made one herself making the team success that much sweeter.
Ashley Martinez said, “As we were told that this year was our chance on making history for the Passaic girls varsity soccer by winning our county game. Goosebumps went down my body… this was not just history for the team and school but history for ourselves to congratulate ourselves and nevertheless the effort we put in… this isn’t the last time we make history, trust the process as God has plans for everyone.”
With a wonderful win against PV the Girls Soccer team will continue to grow and improve. Their plan is to keep this momentum so that they can win many more games than ever before.
Head Coach Esposito said, “This win is an important high water mark for soccer in Passaic! It shows that we have been working hard and will continue to do so. It’s undeniable that the future of Girls Soccer in Passaic is a bright one. We are forging an identity that is centered around building a strong group that is more than the sum of its parts. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this program, getting there will be half the fun!”
