For the first time since anyone can remember the fall pep rally was held in the stadium and not just in the gym. The fall days are nice and it was a great opportunity to get us kids out of the building and into the fresh air.
This was a big change and unlike some schools the stadium is a few blocks away from the high school. This could have been a nightmare for administrators who are responsible for keeping us safe and in school. However, everyone made it to the stadium and there were no issues. As expected the students made their way to the pep rally, and behaved themselves.
Mrs. Romero said, “I am proud of my beautiful people. PHS students always impress.”
Upon hearing that some students thought the rally was too long, there is some explanation that needs to be made. First, by having the rally at the stadium so that the rest of the students in school do not get interrupted, class leaders knew that there would be a certain amount of time that would be needed just to get everyone there.
So part of the reason the rally seemed long was because of the travel time needed. Also, once there, to make the trip worthwhile the rally needed to be long enough to make a difference. It is interesting that no one complains about classes taking too long.
Another complaint was that the cost of this event was three dollars. Some students thought that it would be like last year’s just with a bigger venue. In a lot of ways it was.
The biggest issue was that there was a lot of waiting, waiting for the schools to arrive and get settled, then after they did the whole speech about the seniors which many believe was stretched out. Maybe, if they had left that to the end of the rally then maybe people wouldn’t have minded.
Also, there were only two games played, the cheerleaders danced and the dance team did as well. Many commented that the rally was over too fast, but with the time it took to get there and geet everyone settled to enjoy the show, it could not have been helped. Complaining that it was also over too quickly is just silly. It is impossible to find that happy mediu, where everyone is happy about the rally’s length.
Personally, the rally seemed to go by really fast, which means that it was fun. Time does fly when you are having fun. The purpose of a pep rally is to elevate the energy of the students before a game. The idea is that they will be excited for the athletes and the competitions. The cheerleaders were great and they helped get everyone in a great mood for the rally and the season.
Asking many classmates how this can be even better in the future, one request was that there could be more student activities during the rally. Also, food always helps. Even though providing food would be difficult, it could make the event amazing. Passaic really needs a fight song, so that we can get energized when it is sung. There is so much talent here, maybe we can get one in the coming year.
One student suggested having carnival games at the rally, so that students can enjoy their time together. That would be a tall order, but it would be fun. One thing is that these ideas should be brought up by students before the event, and they should help provide solutions instead of just complaining about the work that others did.
The pep rally is a very popular event, with all the tickets being sold. It is surely going to be something that will be done again in future seasons, so if there are any suggestions to make so that this can be even better, bring them up to student council, to the class president, or better yet, join the team and make it happen!
